Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) comes with another magical tool. This time its a pair of Glass. These are not any ordirnary glasses. They have the ability to connect to the internet, stream video in front of your eyes, recognize your command along with other exciting features. This is something we have only been watching in many of the sci-fi movies, until now.
The Project Glass that Google has been working on for some time is finally up and ready to go. Though they have just released the prototype version and now it is only available to few developers at a price of $1,500 for a pair. Google co-founder Brin told reporters after the demonstration, "That is our job: to push the edges of technology into the future."
Features
These are wearable internet connected glasses. These glasses have the capability of recognizing voice commands and delivering the output accordingly. While you are wearing these glasses you can get the direction for a destination or a text message received from a friend without even touching them. You can have a video chat, share a video or take a photo without even taking out a camera.
If you are traveling and need to order a few things, why not use these glasses to save some time and order while traveling. This is definitely pushing the limits. You can converse with people using these glasses as they have an inbuilt mike along with a camera and internet capability.
They demonstrated these features using a few sky divers and athletes to show that these glasses are functional even when people are involved in sum heavy physical and mental tasks.
IMPACT
This technology will seriously challenge its competitors. This time the competitors will not be the other glass makers like Bausch and lomb, etc...But instead it would be the likes of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), Samsung and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT). As these glasses will offer a direct replacement for the smartphones. Apple and Samsung are one of the top leaders currently in the market, sharing as much as 55% of the smatphone market. Thus when the glasses are released which is expected to be launched earlier for the premium class would replace the usability of iPad and iPhone thus challenging Apple's Value based strategic Marketing.
We know that Microsoft is coming up with its own manucfactured tablet. They already are facing stiff competition from Apple and samsung, on top of it with the release of Nexus by Google at the same time will challenge its ability to create its own market space. If they are successful to an extent, they might get rattled with the launch of these Glasses by 2014. Would you not prefer a glass close to your eyes, recognizing your commands, rather than a smartphone with similar features?
Google has said that this technology will be available to the consumers not before 2014 and that they needed to fix certain bugs on this device along with a battery which could last the entire day. They are also working on projects like a fleet of driverless cars. Once these things are fixed and the glasses are available to the masses, Google will achieve some serious breakthrough in the technology.
This is why it is said that it is indeed one of the most innovative companies across the globe!
