By Marshall Hargrave - May 11, 2013 | Tickers: CLW, IP, PKG |
International Paper (NYSE: IP) saw a slight pull back earlier this month after posting weaker than expected earnings. First-quarter EPS came in at $0.65, $0.09 below consensus estimates. This will likely disappoint one of International Paper's largest shareholders, Third Point Capital and the hedge fund founder billionaire Dan Loeb. Loeb made the case for owning International Paper in his most recent letter to his investors dated April more »

Can You Make Paper with These Stocks?
By Chad Henage - October 1, 2012 | Tickers: IP, PKG, SEE
I know the title of this post is a bit corny, but honestly many investors completely ignore certain segments of the market because the type of industry isn't all that exciting. I can imagine even analysts of paper product stocks probably need a little bit of caffeine to make it through the companies presentations. However, what is not boring is finding a good value stock that pays a good dividend and has earnings growth. I recently ran a screen on The Motley Fool CAPS Screener looking for companies in the “consumer non-durable" segment. My thought process was, as the economy slowly recovers any company related to packaging and paper should see improved results. There were only a few companies that met my requirements, they were International Paper (NYSE: IP), Packaging Corp. of America (NYSE: PKG), and Sealed Air Corp. (NYSE: SEE).

Paper Money
By AnnaLisa Kraft - September 1, 2012 | Tickers: IP, PKG, HSY
Before the FDA, before the proliferation of local health inspectors and the USDA, grocery shopping at the general store was a dirty business…literally dirty. Your counterman would cut the meat then without wiping his hands grab you some pickles from the communal pickle barrel. Flies and other vermin feasted on unprotected staples like flour, sugar, and molasses. As for the rest of the food everybody had their hand in more »

By Edgar Ambart - March 3, 2012 | Tickers: IP, MWV, PKG, RKT
If you were a fan of the TV show “The Office” like I was before Steve Carell decided to jump ship, then you must know a thing or two about paper companies. In the series, mid-size paper company Dunder Mifflin is doing all it can to boost sales in a steadily declining market. But ever wonder how a large name like International Paper Co. (NYSE: IP) is doing in a more »

5 Reasons to Invest in International Paper
By Arthur Pinkasovitch - February 24, 2012 | Tickers: BZ, IP, MWV, PKG, RKT
Over the last year International Paper (NYSE: IP) appreciated by 21%; after factoring in its substantial 3.1% dividend and assuming reinvestment, investors who held the shares of the company realized a 25% return, outperforming the market by 20%. I came across International Paper while doing some research on Undervalued Dividends and although the overall business model is fairly boring, I became interested in doing some more digging into the more »
