  The average annual return on stocks since 1928 is around 9%.  Life would be splendid if stocks behaved themselves and simply grew at a steady 9% rate each year.  Talk about a utopia!  Too bad we invest in a volatile market where only those of us with terrificly long time horizons can take comfort in the 9% average return statistic.
