The Past and Future of This Smartphone

Its chic and stylish, something that revolutionized the smartphone market and now holds a dominant position in the industry. But, what is being talked about here? An iPhone certainly. Mobile phones were launched as far back as the 80's and now we are using the Gen-X cellphones what we popularly know as the smartphones. iPhones have now become a status symbol. People flaunt them. But are they worth only flaunting? Certainly not, as they serve a greater purpose. Now I am not going to give a long note on an iPhone’s usage. Who won’t know about them?
But do you really know everything about these? Let’s check it out.
Well, there are certain iPhones that you’ve never seen or heard of. High costs prevented Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) from launching an iPhone design with a contoured screen. Douglas Satzger, an industrial designer, Creative Head and Industrial Design Manager of Apple from 1996 to 2008, said that there was a strong interest in the company to design the first ever iPhone using 2 pieces of shaped glass, but the technology was cost prohibitive at that time.
The iPhone this fall
There’s finally some news about the next generation iPhone’s timeline since Sharp announced that it would start shipping screens for the Apple device starting next month. Sharp was identified as one of the three suppliers among LG Display(NYSE: LPL) and Japan Display who are expected to manufacture screens for the new device.
Sharp President, Mr.Takashi Okuda promises to start the shipments from this month after his company released its quality earnings. He, however, declined to offer a more specific date.
The iPhone is expected to hit the stores in October ahead of the holiday shopping season. There have been other reports suggesting its release sometime in September.
Rumors abound that Apple will increase the size of the screen of its new phone to 4 inches from 3.5 inches in an effort to compete against archrivals Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) and the Android phones of HTC and Samsung. It could also have a faster and more efficient process capable of handling 4G wireless networks. The device may sport a thinner look as the company says that the new model may work on touch censors embedded into the liquid crystal display rather than having a separate touch -screen layer.
Satzger, leaked the information regarding the new model of the iPhone during the court trial between Apple and Samsung. He said that the designs were not liked due to its high cost method of shaping glass. The quality was one big priority and the company was not game to compromise on it. Satzger, for the record, now holds the same position as he did for Apple in Intel (NASDAQ: INTC). The designer even said that when nothing worked out, the designs for iPhone Mini were chalked out based on the designs of iPod Mini.
September or October, I’m sure people eagerly await the unseen iPhone. Apple always has a lot in store for its customers. The increased size of the screen and the sleek look would definately raise its appeal.
