Is Nokia’s Well Anticipated Announcement a Game Changer?

Just a few more days remaining until Nokia hosts a press meeting in Manhattan. What’s in store for all who are waiting is still something that is a bit confusing. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is said to be co-hosting this event as well. Now everyone knows that Microsoft is set to launch its new operating system “Windows 8” for both computers and handheld devices.
Nokia (NYSE: NOK) was able to re-enter into the smartphone world with its “Lumia” series, this specific series is run by Microsoft’s windows 7.5 Mango operating system. So basically what we can infer keeping all the facts above in mind is that, Nokia is set to release probably the first Windows 8 device. This is pretty much what every analyst is predicting.
Is Nokia trying to throw every one off their tracks with this video? Well, this video is in a way making consumers expect more or something totally different. All this video has is basically a neat recording of a pretty lady cycling, no wires, adapter or any sort of electronic hardware in it whatsoever. Weird teaser I must say. My personal bet is still the launch of a handheld device running on Windows 8, probably good photography hardware in it as well.
Nokia was having a really bad run until it tied up with Microsoft and started shipping equipment with Microsoft’s software. The Lumia series was able to lift the brand and rebuild Nokia’s image. Apart from this Microsoft is set to release Windows 8 very soon which would be available not only in Nokia devices but others as well. The developer’s preview of the computer operating system was available for users who needed a preview. This launch has created massive scope for app developers as Microsoft is set to introduce an app market and push the concept of apps on PC’s as well. Apple’s iPad is still preferred over Google’s android based tablets which is the reason why Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) claims the iPad to be the best tablet out there. Microsoft 8 devices (which rumors state that Nokia is also set to release) have the upper hand in one aspect which is the fact that all prior apps that run on Windows 7 can be installed and used in Windows 8, this is a key element and a very strong feature to help push Windows 8 powered devices. September 5th is going to be an exciting day in terms of getting a preview of what new devices are set to launch and an answer to the well awaited question of who has the upper hand?
Let's not forget the fact that Apple is releasing their set of gadgets later this year. iPhone 5 (hopefully that's what they'll name it) is set to release with a huge upgrade in features. As per announcements and rumors are concerned a bigger screen and better chip-set package is set to be included in the phone. Apple has already given a hint of what the software would be like with a pre release of the iOS 6 to developers. They've managed to bring in synchronization with social websites like Facebook, a feature which everyone applauded in Nokia's lumia smartphones. Apple has not given a confirmed date as of yet on when these devices would. One thing is for sure it's definitely not before Nokia's big announcement. For now there is probably no chance for Apple to steal Nokia's thunder.
What we can infer from this specific announcement is going to get minds thinking. Nokia will definitely be aiming towards lifting their brand and conquering the market like they did once upon a time. Nokia as a brand always produced smartphones with good hardware but their software partner Symbian couldn't catch up with the rapid change brought in by its competitors. Now that Microsoft has come into picture it's a completely different ball game. The product launch of Lumia itself showed the seriousness of Nokia looking forward to challenge the giants. This announcement is definitely going to go in favor of Nokia not just because they'd probably be releasing a product, but also because of the fact that Microsoft is their co-hosts. Nokia hardware running on windows 8 is going to excite the consumer market and probably go in favor of Nokia and Microsoft as far as their respective share value is concerned. I'd place my bets on the two undoubtedly this week. For now, all eyes and ears are on Manhattan.
